So we have finally made it to California and I have to admit it is a pretty big change from the rolling cornfields of Iowa! It took us a little while to find a house but the military took good care of through out the physical transition. The emotional one I think will take a little longer. Both Shawn and I have always had a wander lust and it was never really a problem for either of us to jump from one place to another. However, this move has been a bit harder on me than I expected. Iowa had become our home, where we brought our babies home from the hospital and watched them grow into little boys. We had made wonderful friends and it was just a beautiful place to raise a family. Don't get me wrong, California is gorgeous! It will just take a little while to get used too.
One of the hardest things about the move was Aleq's birthday. Aleq was hoping for a big birthday party at the gym with all his school friends. We had only been in Cali for a week so we had no gym and no school friends. But I was determined to make the most of it! We met a wonderful family that lives here before we came out and they happen to have three children close to the ages of our boys so naturally I invited them over. Aleq loves Despicable Me and wanted a minion cake. My fondant was all packed up still but with the help of The Brown Bulletin and my cousin's wonderfully talented daughter I borrowed her idea for the perfect cake.
Aleq wanted fish picatta for dinner so we had that with some veggies. The birthday party was a success and even though it wasn't fancy Aleq had a blast and made some new friends.
We also took the boys to a beautiful place called Point Reyes National beach. There they got to meet the Pacific Ocean, it was love at first sight. Since then they ask me at least once a week if they can go to the ocean.
Although the boys still ask if we can go back to Iowa every once in awhile they seem to be enjoying themselves more and more here everyday, which makes things a whole lot easier.

Thanks for the cake props, but we copied off the internet...and the cheerios were a little improv, but they work well, right?
I'm so glad that you are getting settled.
The boys are darling!!
