Hiking

A few weeks ago Shawn had the day off so we decided to take the boys up near Lake McBride and go hiking. It was a nice sunny day, a bit on the humid side but tolerable. I discovered that Iowa hiking is nothing like Wyoming hiking. But what Iowa lacks in vertical feet it makes up for in vegetation. It was gorgeous seeing all the trees, vines, and colorful birds. We were planning just a short nature hike, a distance the boys could easily walk without getting too tuckered out. But we missed our turn on the trail at our little stroll became quite the trek. Luckily Shawn brought the backpack for Rhees and Aleq is such a champ he didn't get tired until we were able to see the car again. We then went to a little picnic area and roasted some hot dogs and had a picnic. Rhees loved the watermelon and soon the boys had more energy to burn. So they decided to climb and jump off the nearby rocks. Mick opted to take a nap instead. It was so nice to be outside with our family and just enjoy nature.

The boys after the hike. Aleq looks a bit tired, Rhees on the other hand could go a few more miles in that backpack.
